On this flight, we takeoff IFR in the Cessna Conquest from runway 27 at CYYJ and climb through the clouds as we fly over the west coast shoreline. However, we also decided to surprise our passengers with a nice Valentines Day treat. Flying a small twin engine turbine airplane (Cessna Conquest) is an intimate adventure regardless. However, as adventure pilots, we are always trying to find ways to enhance the passenger experience. If there is one thing I've learned, it is that the simple things go a long way. From a Cessna 172, C182, or C414 to a boeing 737, B747, or Airbus a380... its the little things that count for passengers! So we decided to think outside the box to make this IFR flight across the Rocky Mountains even more memorable!
Once ready, we start up the PT6 turboprop engines and takeoff from Victoria International Airport, BC, Canada. Flying over the coastal shoreline and busting through some cumulus clouds as we follow the SID departure procedure. Aircraft ice? Maybe. Turbulence? Maybe. A whole lot of flying around clouds? Guaranteed! As part of the departure, we cross an NDB, and intercept a VOR radial. Similar to an RNAV approach, this departure procedure can be done using just the GPS, or the navaids alone. However, ATC helps us get enroute soon after we take off and clear us to climb up to our cruising altitude of FL230 (23,000 feet). The weather is VFR, passengers are happy, us pilots are ready to go... you could not ask for a better day to go flying!
For those of you who are interesting in how to become a pilot and want to learn to fly, I have made videos on how to get your private pilot license (PPL) and will be posting more videos soon explaining the commercial pilot license (CPL), the ATPL, as well as multi engine rating and IFR instrument rating. It is my passion to pass on and share what I have learned throughout my aviation adventures and my life as a commercial pilot. From takeoff to landing, mountain flying, IFR, VFR, the occasional instrument approach, overshoot,/ go around, and everything in between, come join my brother and I as we explore everything there is to enjoy as an aviation adventurer! Also, if you want to get in touch, feel free to leave a comment or reach out to me on instagram! :) Thanks everyone! Happy and safe flying!
